herring savoury
an attempt to make the herring more marketable in Britain in the 1950\'s. Most herring were pickled and exported to Europe. The savoury was a fish stick (q.v.). Ironically, it was tested against a bland version using cod called fish fingers (q.v.) but the public much preferred the latter
